Three movies that are dividing critics

Three movies I’ve recently reviewed have been dividing my friends and fellow critics: Saving Mr. Banks (big thumbs-up), August: Osage County (thumbs-up) and The Wolf of Wall Street (thumbs-down). I stand by my reviews and my placement of those first two films in my top 10 for 2013 so far, but I do understand the disagreement. After all, regarding the first movie, who would have ever predicted that Disney would release an uplifting, slightly too-sweet, not-competely-true fantasy film? And it seems that some who liked The Wolf of Wall Street thought August: Osage County was outlandish and over the top. Perhaps they preferred the former’s restraint and subtlety.
