Short Film of the Day: ‘Bear Story’

April 6, 2020

From Chilean director Gabriel Osorio Vargas, Bear Story (2014) is a digitally animated tale of an anthropomorphic bear passing on his story of struggle in a breathtakingly unique way. Mesmerizingly beautiful, it’s one of the most moving and visually arresting animated short films of the last decade. I first saw it as part of the 2015 Manhattan Short Film Festival, when I predicted it would win the Oscar. My prediction came true.

For more information on the film, see Wikipedia. And for an index of all my Short Film of the Day selections, go here.
