‘Field of Dreams’ movie site
About four miles northeast of the small town of Dyersville, Iowa, nestled among corn fields, lies one of the most iconic outdoor locations in cinema history: the baseball field from Field of Dreams. Open sunrise to sunset most days of the year, and free of charge (save a donation request), the site has remained mostly undeveloped. It includes the field itself, the house (available for tours and rentals at certain times of the year), a gravel parking lot and three barn-like structures (one a store and another a restaurant closed from late fall to early spring). In the off-season, visitors will have to settle for a single porta-potty. Talk about rustic.
Don’t count on corn. When the photos below were taken, in November 2024, the crop had been harvested, leaving the area beyond the outfield flat and bare. But you can still feel the magic. You just can’t feel your hands if you visit in the winter without gloves.
If you’re wondering about the Major League Baseball stadium constructed on the site, you can see it in the distance beyond the original field, but it isn’t open to the public. And because the bleachers were temporary, there wouldn’t be much to see anyway.
My suggestion is to visit during warm weather and stay at least 30 minutes, soaking in the atmosphere. And then visit the “If You Build It” museum in Dyersville, which, disappointingly, is closed in the off-season.
