Short Film of the Day: ‘Pitter Patter Goes My Heart’

April 4, 2020

A German-language film written and directed by Austria’s Christoph Rainer, Pitter Patter Goes My Heart (2015) is a wonderfully quirky but ultimately tragic (or is it?) look at Romantic love. The short movie, which I first saw at the 2016 Florida Film Festival, features Vicky Krieps, who went on to star alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in Phantom Thread.

I had the pleasure of meeting Krieps at the 2019 Telluride Film Festival, where she was promoting Lyrebird with Guy Pearce. (That film has since been renamed The Last Vermeer.) Krieps spoke fondly of Pitter Patter Goes My Heart and reminded me that it was a student film. I’d give it an A+.
