Florida and Sarasota fests reveal lineups

The Florida and Sarasota film festivals revealed their lineups this week. Often considered two of the three best movie events in the state (the other being Miami), the two fests will overlap slightly this year, with Sarasota being held April 1-10 and Florida April 8-17.

The Sarasota fest will screen more than 200 films in multiple locations in downtown Sarasota, including its opening-night movie, M. Cahill’s Porcupine, starring Jena Malone, who will be will be in attendance to receive the fest’s Excellence in Acting award. Malone is one of three celebrity honorees this year, the others being Kenny G (who will screen director Penny Lane’s Listening to Kenny G documentary) and Jacqueline Bisset (who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award and screen her new film, Loren & Rose, directed by Russel Brown).

Regrettably, I won’t be covering the Sarasota fest (as I have three times in the past), as my time will be spent closer to home at the Florida Film Festival. For my full coverage of that event, go here.
