Box-office predictions

I now predict that Jurassic World will overtake Avatar as the highest-grossing (straight money) film in U.S. history: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic.htm. However, it’s in 54th place on the adjusted-to-inflation list: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm. Internationally, it looks like it will not catch Avatar and Titanic: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/.

Gone with the Wind still holds the adjusted-to-inflation record for both the U.S. and international markets, although I believe the new Star Wars film may threaten the international record when it’s released later this year. GWTW‘s domestic record should be safe.

Epilogue: Oops. As of early August 2015, it looks like the film has stalled and will not beat Avatar. It might still pass Titanic, however.
